A watch displayed at the centre of a sphere. An LED ring spinning at 20 revolutions per second, displaying an image all around it. And a major challenge: how do you transfer power and data to this ring rotating at high speed, without any wired connection?
An electronics and mechanics challenge
At that speed, running a cable is out of the question: every component has to work in constant rotation, reliably and without wear. The project needed contactless power and data transmission that was both compact and robust.
A solution from another field
To find it, our engineers looked for inspiration in a completely different field from electronics: the automotive industry. A typical FiveCo approach, where electronics, mechanics and software come together to create tailor-made solutions.
